Crystal Palace striker Eddie Nketiah could be in line to receive his first senior Ghana call-up as the Ghana Football Association (GFA) prepares to refresh the Black Stars squad for the upcoming Unity Cup in London.
With the GFA confirming that new players will be integrated into the squad for the four-nation invitational tournament, excitement is building around Nketiah’s long-anticipated debut.
Ghana will face Nigeria in a high-profile semi-final clash on May 28 at Brentford’s Gtech Community Stadium, with the final set for May 31 against either Jamaica or Trinidad and Tobago.
Speaking to Akoma FM, GFA Communications Director Henry Asante Twum revealed that head coach Otto Addo is expected to name a squad that includes new additions, while maintaining the core of the team that won recent FIFA World Cup qualifiers against Chad and Madagascar.
“There will be some fresh additions while keeping the core of the team,” Asante Twum said. “Coach Addo sees this as an opportunity to test new players ahead of more competitive fixtures.”
One of the biggest talking points is the potential inclusion of 25-year-old Nketiah, who recently helped Crystal Palace clinch their first-ever FA Cup title with a 1-0 win over Manchester City.
The forward, born in Lewisham to Ghanaian parents, previously represented England at youth level but has now expressed openness to switching international allegiance.
“When I was younger, representing England was a natural choice after progressing through the youth system. However, if Ghana invites me, I will gladly accept,” Nketiah said in a recent interview on The Beautiful Game podcast.
His statement, coupled with his recent club form and the GFA’s public stance on bringing in new talent, has fueled speculation that he could be named in Addo’s Unity Cup squad, expected to be announced later this week.
Nketiah’s possible debut is being widely welcomed by Ghanaian fans eager to see new attacking options in the national setup. With a shortage of consistent goal-scoring form in recent months, his inclusion could offer the Black Stars a timely boost.
The Unity Cup serves as both a celebratory showcase of African and Caribbean footballing talent and a valuable preparation platform ahead of key 2026 World Cup qualifying matches.
For Nketiah—and other prospective debutants—it could mark the beginning of a new chapter in Ghana’s quest for continental and global success.
