Planned power cuts will affect parts of Ghana’s Western, Ashanti and Tema areas on Thursday, 23 July, as the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) carries out emergency and scheduled maintenance on its network.

The utility provider says the works, described as part of ongoing efforts to improve reliability and service delivery, will require supply interruptions of between six and eight-and-a-half hours in a wide range of communities.

Western Region – emergency maintenance

In the Western Region, ECG will undertake emergency maintenance from 09:00 to 15:00.

The outage window will cover a large cluster of communities, including Esiama township and Axim township, as well as Abura Ahanta, GREL, Tsibu, Ayiskro, Nsien, Miamia, Adiewoso, Kikam and Asamko.

Aiyinase township, Awiaso, Awiabo, Atuabo and Maaha Beach are also listed, together with Eikwe Hospital, Nkroful township, Asasetre, Kamgbline, Gwira Banso, Gwira, Eshiom, Asemkrom, Jema, Boinso, Omanpe, Kwahu and Sewum.

Further areas scheduled to be affected include Enchi township, Nyankamam, Old Yakasi, New Yakasi, Achimfo, Adjoum, Akontombra Nkwanta, Half Assini, Elubo, Benyin, Bawia, Mbem, Samanye, Mpataba, Tikobo 1, Tikobo 2, Alawule, Bonyere, Ezinlibo and surrounding localities.

Ashanti Region – daytime works

In the Ashanti Region, ECG has planned maintenance that will result in outages from 08:30 to 17:00.

Areas to be affected include Kronom Cement, Boussie, Asuofua, Heman, Amoaman, Adankwame, Adugyama, Nketiah, Kokote, Abira and Namong.

Barekese Headworks and Akyease Booster Station are both scheduled to be without power during the work period, along with Offinso, KCG, Ahenkro, Kodie, Apagya, Aduamoah, Denase, Akom, Mowire, Amoako, Boamang and Tetrem.

ECG says surrounding communities on the same feeders in these districts should also expect supply interruptions while the network is being worked on.

Tema area – mid-morning to afternoon cuts

In the Tema Region, planned maintenance will lead to outages between 10:00 and 16:00.

The company has listed Santor, Jordan City, Aunty Araba, Abgeshie Laryea, Nelplast, Kubekro and Level 400 among the affected areas.

Parts of Nungua, specifically around the Presby Schools and the Traditional Council, will also experience power cuts, together with neighbouring communities on the same supply lines.

ECG apology and customer advice

ECG has apologised to customers for the disruption the works will cause and is asking residents and businesses in all the affected locations to plan ahead for the scheduled outages.

The company is urging customers to make alternative arrangements where possible and to remain patient while the maintenance is carried out, reiterating that the exercises form part of broader measures intended to enhance the stability and quality of power supply.
