Dutch football pundit Hugo Borst has weighed in on the ongoing battle between Mohammed Kudus and Brian Brobbey for starting slot in Ajax’s attack.
The Ghanaian international had taken Brobbey’s spot in Ajax’s attack and made it his own, scoring in five straight games, but after being dropped to the bench in the last two games in favour of the 20-year-old, the forward has responded by scoring four in that period.
Speaking in the Panenka broadcast, Borst criticized Ajax manager Alfred Schreuder for repeatedly opting for Kudus over Brobbey.
“Schreuder was really not good that he put Kudus there for a while. What kind of screenplay was that? Did anyone have to be pleased? A real striker, trained at Ajax and brought back for a godsend: put him on the line!’
The preference for Brobbey does not come out of nowhere, as it turns out. “I’m in love with Brobbey, because he’s a really nice and good striker to begin with,” said Borst.
‘I like real strikers. You can recognize a striker by his build. Van Basten and Kieft were strikers and Brobbey is also unmistakably a boy who does not belong on the wing. He is wonderful as a point of reference and you can also hide the depth.’
