Dropped Jordan Ayew backs Black Stars to win Nations Cup

In-form Marseille striker Jordan Ayew is backing Ghana to win the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations despite failing to make the squad.

The 20-year-old was conspicuously left out of the provisional 26-man squad which was announced last Thursday.

Ayew, voted Marseille’s player of the month for November, has made 17 French Ligue 1 appearances and scored four goals.

But that was not enough to convince Ghana coach Kwesi Appiah.

“Such decisions are part of the life of any footballer,” Ayew told France Football Magazine on Tuesday.

“I have only 21 years and I am sure that I will take the chance soon. As I will follow the Nations Cup on the screens, I hope that Ghana succeed this time to win the title. I will always be Ghana’s supporter,” he added.

Ayew was a member of the Ghana team which finished fourth at the 2012 Nations Cup finals in Gabon and Equatorial.

Ghana last who won the African at the 1982 finals in Libya.

The Black Stars begin their campaign against DR Congo on 20 January in Port Elizabeth before engaging Mali and Niger.
