Dortmund were delighted to welcome Otto Addo back after the former Ghana international masterminded the Black Stars’ qualification for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.
The 46-year-old Dortmund trainer scout was temporarily released to Ghana for the World Cup playoff against Nigeria.
The Black Stars qualified for the World Cup after a thrilling 1-1 draw with Nigeria at the Mashood Abiola Stadium in March.
Thomas Partey’s first-half goal was cancelled out by a penalty from Super Eagles captain William Troost-Ekong, as both teams shared the spoils in Abuja.
After the first leg ended in a goalless draw at the Baba Yara Stadium in Kumasi, the result secured Ghana’s qualification on away goals.
Addo has been widely praised for quickly turning things around, particularly following the team’s disastrous campaign at the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations.
Following his return to Dortmund, reports have emerged that Addo has agreed a one-year deal with the Ghana Football Association to become Black Stars coach.
Addo took over as Ghana coach after Milovan Rajevac failed to advance to the last 16 of the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations in Cameroon, finishing bottom of their group.
Ghana have been assigned to Group H, along with Portugal, Uruguay, and South Korea, for the World Cup, which will be held in Qatar from November 21 to December 18.
