Dominik Livakovic has signed his Barcelona contract after completing his medical, but the Spanish club must wait for further paperwork from Fenerbahce before officially announcing the goalkeeper’s transfer.
The 31-year-old Croatia international arrived in Barcelona on Tuesday and passed his medical examination successfully on Wednesday morning, according to Catalan newspaper Mundo Deportivo. He has agreed to a contract with Barcelona running until June 2030.
Livakovic later had lunch with Barcelona president Joan Laporta, vice-president Rafa Yuste and his agent Andy Bara before travelling to the club’s offices at Spotify Camp Nou to complete the formal signing.
Although the contract has now been signed, Barcelona cannot confirm the deal publicly until Fenerbahce sends the remaining documents required to complete the transfer process.
The Turkish club has postponed sending those documents until Thursday because it is preparing for a decisive match against French side Lyon on Wednesday evening. The fixture is the second leg of the final qualifying round for the UEFA Champions League, making it Fenerbahce’s immediate priority.
Barcelona’s plan for Livakovic has also not yet been settled. He could remain at the club as the second-choice goalkeeper, or leave on a season-long loan before returning to Barcelona next summer.
That decision is linked to the future of Wojciech Szczesny, the experienced Poland goalkeeper whose contract with Barcelona expires at the end of the coming season. Livakovic could therefore spend the campaign away from the club before assuming a more prominent role when Szczesny’s deal comes to an end.
Barcelona must also establish how much room they have within UEFA’s financial fair play regulations before deciding whether they can register Livakovic in their squad.
The delay means that, despite the player completing the medical and signing his contract, the transfer remains without an official public confirmation from Barcelona. The final announcement is expected only after Fenerbahce supplies the outstanding paperwork.
Livakovic joined Fenerbahce from Dinamo Zagreb and has established himself as Croatia’s first-choice goalkeeper. His arrival at Barcelona would give the club another option in goal, although his immediate status in the squad remains dependent on the club’s registration position and its decision over a possible loan move.
