Hearts of Oak head coach Mas-Ud Didi Dramani has described Abdul Karim Zito’s decision to resign as Asante Kotoko head coach as a normal occurrence in football management.
Zito stepped down on Monday after Kotoko’s elimination from the MTN FA Cup following a Round of 16 defeat to Aduana FC, bringing an end to what had become a difficult spell for the Porcupine Warriors.
The former assistant to Dramani at Kotoko leaves the club amid a dip in form, with the Kumasi-based side managing just one win in their last six Ghana Premier League matches.
Kotoko currently sit fifth on the league table with 35 points, one behind arch-rivals Hearts of Oak, as both clubs prepare for a crucial Super Clash this weekend.
Reacting to the development, Dramani suggested that public criticism of coaches often overlooks the complex realities of football management and the many variables that influence results.
“It’s normal. This is not the first time he has walked off from the coaching industry, and this is not going to be the last time. It’s always like that, and it’s very unfortunate when people don’t understand how the rudiments of the game go,” Dramani told Joy Sports.
He added, “Unfortunately, coaches are not responsible for the outcomes of games. But many times they are perceived to be responsible for the outcomes of games.”
Dramani’s remarks contribute to the ongoing debate about accountability in Ghanaian football, especially at a time when pressure on coaches continues to intensify whenever results fail to meet expectations.
