Didi Dramani Defends Coaches After Karim Zito’s Kotoko Exit

Hearts of Oak head coach Mas-Ud Didi Dramani has come to the defence of football coaches, insisting they should not be made scapegoats for match results following the resignation of Karim Zito as Asante Kotoko head coach.

Zito stepped down on Monday after Kotoko’s MTN FA Cup Round of 16 elimination to Aduana FC, ending his tenure amid mounting pressure and a string of inconsistent performances.

Reacting to the development, Dramani ;  who previously worked with Zito during his time with the Porcupine Warriors  argued that the modern game often places excessive and unfair expectations on coaches whenever teams fail to deliver positive outcomes.

The Hearts of Oak trainer emphasised that while coaches are responsible for preparing their teams and shaping their style of play, several in-game variables remain beyond their direct control.

“Coaches are not responsible for the outcomes of games. But many times they are perceived to be responsible for the outcomes of games,” Dramani told Joy Sports.

“We are very much responsible for the way our teams play and for the way our teams will perform and the way they will behave. But the outcome sometimes is very difficult to control because you don’t control the decision the player makes.”

Kotoko’s recent struggles have seen the Kumasi-based side manage just one win in their last six Ghana Premier League matches, a run that has left them fifth on the table with 35 points  one behind rivals Hearts of Oak. Dramani’s remarks add to the growing conversation around accountability in Ghanaian football as both clubs prepare for a crucial phase of the season.
