Zambia captain Chris Katongo is trying desperately hard to boost his flagging side’s confidence in the 2104 World Cup race with Ghana after they failed to beat minnows Lesotho over the weekend.
Katongo is pleading with his team-mates to lift their game in their remaining three matches to edge past the Black Stars to reach the last phase of the qualifiers.
The Chipolopolo blew a 1-0 lead to draw one-all with Lesotho in their Group D 2014 World Cup qualifier, which reduced their lead at the top of the group to just one as Ghana beat Sudan in Kumasi.
Despite Ghana just a point below the 2012 African champions captain, striker Chris Katongo believes nothing is lost yet.
He said that they still have three games to play, one which is against second-placed Ghana away from home.
In the first game, Zambia beat Ghana 1-0 at home and they still have to play Lesotho and Sudan at home as they want to keep their dreams of qualifying for their first World Cup alive.
With things not looking good for the Chipolopolo, Katongo is pleading with his team-mates to lift their game in their remaining matches.
“We still have a lot to play for in the group and there is nothing lost yet. We just have to keep our heads high and know that we can bounce back from the upset in Lesotho,” Katongo said.
“In the three games we can get nine points and continue with our fight for the first World Cup final appearance.
“The fight is still on and everything is in our own hands. We can’t throw it away at this time. We have to keep on fighting until the end,†the China-based striker said.
Zambia were big favourites to win the game but Kennedy Mweene was sent off and the 10-man Chipolopolo were stunned by a late goal from the minnows.
