The Ghana Football Association have asked Fifa to formalise the switch but after penning the Portsmouth player down for the tournament in Angola, Milovan Rajevac had to revise his notes.
GFA vice-president Fred Pappoe says the player eventually had to be left out on pure technicalities. “We had to inform Portsmouth about his call up for the camping at a set date but we were empowered by law to that because the switch was not formal,” he told KickOffGhana.com.
Portsmouth had been resigned to losing their star midfielder for the January tournament and the 22-year old himself had spoken enthusiastically about wanting to play in a tournament that is convinced Ghana can win.
But he will have to sit out of it even though he could well be making his Ghana debut as early as next March when the Black Stars play a yet to be named opponent in South Africa.
“He is still very much part of our plans and our hope is that we can sort out documentation and play him in the friendly games leading up to the World Cup,” Pappoe added.
