Defender Daniel Opare eyeing gradual Ghana progress at World Cup

Ghana defender Daniel Opare is eyeing a historic World Cup feat in Brazil but says the Black Stars will pace themselves match after match.

Ghana is drawn in a tough group on its third consecutive appearance at the finals which kicks off on June 12.

The Black Stars will open their campaign on June 16 in Natal against USA before taking on Germany and Portugal in Group G.

Many tout Ghana’s group as one of the toughest at the finals in Brazil but the Standard Liege defender believes the side is primed for success at the tournament.

“Last time we were at the quarter finals and now we are thinking about the semi finals,” he said on the World Cup magazine show Destination Brazil.

“When we get to the semi finals then we think about the finals and when we get to the finals we will think about winning the cup. I believe it will be a good tournament for us.”

The Black Stars aim to go at least one better than their quarter final finish four years ago in Brazil.

Ghana will be making its third appearance at the finals this year following progressive stints in 2006 and 2010 in Germany and South Africa respectively.
