Ghanaian defender Alexander Djiku’s five star performance has been recognized as he earned a spot in the first round of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations group stage fixtures in Ivory Coast.
Djiku hogged the headlines, having scored and adjudged man of the match award in Ghana’s 2-1 defeat against Cape Verde on Sunday.
The clash at the Stade Felix Houphouet-Boigny saw Cape Verde’s Jamiro Monteiro open the scoring in the 17th minute, putting the Black Stars on the back foot.
Despite a 37th-minute strike by Majeed Ahsimeru, which was initially counted but later nullified by VAR, Djiku pulled one back for the struggling Black Stars.
Garry Rodrigues had the last say by sealed with a late goal to win it for the Blue Sharks.
