Dede set for Marseille stay

The 20-year old Black Stars midfielder has joined the French champions on pre-season and has been told in categorical terms by club boss Didier Deschamps he will not be allowed to leave the Stade Velladrome after his fine display at the 2010 World Cup triggered interest from other clubs.

Marseille are determined to hold unto Dede, who they loaned out to Arles Avegnion last season, and have offered a contract extension, but the player will rather wait and consider his options.

Dede was furious when Marseille sent him out on loan after Deschamps’ arrival because the player felt he was not given the opportunity to fight for his place. But now reinvigorated by a fine World Cup display, he is keen to make the most of the new season.

“At some point Marseille did not give me a fair chance, but I took that as a motivation and worked hard. Now the club wants me again so we will see, he told KickOffGhana.com. I simply want to make sure I have a good season after a good World Cup.”
