Former Ghana international Dan Quaye has absolved Otto Addo of blame for the Black Stars’ defeat to Sudan in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.

Ghana was defeated 2-0 by the Falcons of Jediane in the second leg of the AFCON qualifiers in Libya on Tuesday, putting the West African powerhouse on the verge of missing the tournament for the first time since 2004.

“No one should blame the coach. We should rather blame the players because they are not serious. The players are selected based on their performance at club, so why don’t they exhibit same perform for the Black Stars when invited,” Quaye told Bryt FM

“Truth be told, these crop of players are indiscipline and it is high time we address it. Players who are not ready to play for the national team can decline call up.

“We cannot blame the coach for this defeat. Our defenders were poor. We committed silly mistakes in the game and that cost us defeat. I’m highly disappointed because we can’t just miss out on AFCON in this group. The Sudanese played as Ghana.”

Ghana now needs to secure wins against the already-qualified Angola and Niger, while hoping that Sudan falters against these same opponents, to keep their chances alive for next year’s tournament in Morocco.
