Black Satellites defender DaCosta Antwi has earned a major nod at the TotalEnergies U-20 Africa Cup of Nations Egypt 2025, with his name appearing on the tournament’s list of standout players from the group stage. But despite the individual honour, the composed centre-back remains focused on the bigger picture.
Antwi, a key figure in Ghana’s defence, has been instrumental in helping the team concede just one goal during the group phase. His performances have drawn praise for their maturity, intelligence, and calmness under pressure. Operating on the left side of Ghana’s central defence, the Young Apostles FC player has consistently delivered assured displays, earning him a spot among the tournament’s top eleven players as selected by the Technical Study Group.
Reacting to the honour, Antwi credited his teammates for the recognition.
“I didn’t expect this at all. It’s an honour, but I owe it all to the team,” he said. “We defend together, and we win together. I’m just doing my part. There’s still work to do. Our eyes are on the main goal—to beat Egypt, get to the semi-finals, and book our ticket to the World Cup. That’s the real prize.”
His words reflect the unity and determination within the Ghana U-20 squad, which now prepares for a high-stakes quarter-final clash against host nation Egypt on Monday, May 12, at the new Suez Stadium.
Alongside fellow defenders Aaron Essel, Ofori McCarthy, and goalkeeper Gidios Aseako, Antwi will be central to Ghana’s bid to shut out a confident Egyptian side and edge closer to continental glory and qualification for the FIFA U-20 World Cup in Chile.
