Following the Black Stars’ narrow defeat to Angola in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers, Nations FC coach Kasim Ocansey Mingle has expressed his belief that his team’s captain, Razak Simpson, has what it takes to compete with the current Black Stars central defenders.
Mingle’s comments come after the Black Stars suffered a 1-0 loss to Angola at the Baba Yara Stadium, ending a 24-year unbeaten streak in the Ashanti Regional capital.
Despite the loss, Mingle is confident that Simpson can hold his own against the national team’s current centre-backs.
“Razak Simpson can match up well with the Black Stars central defenders when given an opportunity,” Mingle said in an interview with Akoma FM.
The Black Stars will look to bounce back from their defeat when they face Niger in their second group game on September 9, 2024, in Berkane, Morocco.
Currently, Ghana sits third in Group F after losing their opening game.
