Coach Björkegren rallies Black Queens for redemption against South Africa

Black Queens head coach Kim Lars Björkegren says his team has regrouped and is focused on securing third place at the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations.

After pushing hosts Morocco to a dramatic semi-final that ended 1-1 before a 4-2 loss on penalties, Björkegren acknowledged the emotional toll on the squad.

However, he says the team is ready to bounce back.

“We had a group of coaches, staff members, and players who were really disappointed,” he said.

“But we’re back on track again and focused on the next game. We want to do the best we can to win it.”

Ghana meets South Africa on Friday, July 25, in Casablanca, with both sides eyeing a podium finish.

The Queens will be hoping to avenge their earlier 2-0 group-stage loss to the reigning champions.
