Head coach of Basake Holy Stars Abdulai Gazale has revealed that his team’s win against Hearts of Oak was motivated by “perceived disrespect”.
The debutants shocked the Phobians with a 1-0 defeat in a week one fixture of the Ghana Premier League at the Accra Sports Stadium on Sunday thanks to Prince Tweneboah’s second minute strike.
Speaking to the media after the game, Gazale felt that Hearts of Oak underestimated his side, which ultimately led to their downfall.
“They underrated us. When you even hear people’s comments before the game… I saw comments on their flyer, saying we should come and collect goals. If you disrespect your opponents, they will discipline you,” he said.
The defeat has sparked calls from fans for the immediate dismissal of Hearts of Oak’s head coach, Aboubakar Ouattara, just one match into the new season.
Hearts of Oak will travel to Kpando for Heart of Lions meeting while Holy Stars host Dreams FC at CAM Park in Anynase.
