Akunnor, a former Black Stars captain, completed his first full season as coach in charge of Sekondi Eleven Wise and says it has been a great experience so far. Now he will head to Germany to upgrade his knowledge as he looks to put him in the right stead for a future national team job. Akunnor is worried that not many ex-internationals are being given the opportunities and push to make a career of coaching, as is the case in neighbouring Nigeria. “It’s sad that not many of the players are in coaching but I am sure many of us will follow soon. Gargo Mohammed did it and after the many years we have played in Europe we should have some experience that should change our football,” he told KickOffGhana.com. “I believe that the GFA should take a central and encourage the boys.” Akunnor has been linked with the national Under-17 job and his comments suggest he will gladly take it. “I will only quit Wise at this stage if there is a national team offer. I am on the ground now and I am going to study further so the future is bright for me.”
