Former GFA Communications Director Ibrahim Saanie Daara says Charles Kwabla Akonnor’s appointment as head coach of Kenyan giants Gor Mahia is a major opportunity to relaunch his coaching career.
Akonnor, who has been without a job since his exit from the Black Stars in 2021, signed a two-year deal with the Kenyan champions last week. He will be supported by assistant coach Bismark Kobby Mensah and goalkeeper trainer George Owu ; both also from Ghana.
Speaking in an interview, Saanie Daara said the move offers Akonnor a fresh platform to rebuild his reputation on the continent.
“This is a big opportunity for CK to relaunch his career,” he said. “He’s had offers, but some were not suitable. Going outside and making his name again is good news and it could bring him back into contention for some of the top jobs.”
Akonnor has previously managed Hearts of Oak, Kotoko, Dreams FC, and the Black Stars, and also guided Kotoko in the CAF Champions League.
