Black Stars coach Chris Hughton has explained why midfielder Thomas Partey was not involved in Ghana’s 2023 AFCON qualifiers against Angola on Monday.
Having played the entire 90 minutes in Kumasi on Thursday, there was hopes of the Arsenal midfielder keeping his spot in the team for the second leg but was left on the bench by head coach Chris Hughton.
The 64-year-old reveals Partey had injury concerns and was a risk for him to play.
“Thomas [Partey] has a small injury issue and we felt it was too big of a risk to start him,” Hughton said in a post match presser.
Ghana managed to secure a 1-1 draw with Angola and now top of Group E with eight points.
The Black Stars face Central African Republic in their next encounter in June.
