Chris Hughton needs our support to succeed in Cote D’Ivoire – President Simeon-Okraku

President Kurt Edwin Simeon-Okraku is calling on the entire country to support the technical team of the Black Stars during the forthcoming Africa Cup of Nations Cote D’Ivoire 2023.

He was speaking at the squad announcement press conference on Monday, December 1, 2024 at Alisa Hotel in Accra. He emphasized that support and positivity are the two most important ingredients that are needed to fuel the team to greater heights at the Africa Cup of Nations.

‘’Coach Chris Hughton and the rest of the backroom staff need your support and I am extremely happy that all of us are here. It’s a signal of our commitment towards offering this technical team and our players our undiluted support’’ President Simeon-Okraku said.

‘’Ivory Coast is possible. We have seen top performing teams fail at big tournaments, we have seen less experienced and un-fancied sides win big tournaments so it is possible’’.

‘’Again, whether in good times or in bad times all of us here in our dear country called Ghana have only one senior men national team is called the Black Stars. And we are the Black Stars and we are Ghana’’ he added.

Ghana will be making her 24th appearance at Africa’s flagship competition in Cote D’Ivoire having lifted the title in 1963, 1965, 1978 and 1982. The Black Stars have finished second on three different occasions since their last win 1982 in Libya. Ghana lost to Cote D’Ivoire in the 1992 final, lost the title to Egypt in 2010 before suffering an excruciating loss to Cote D’Ivoire in 2015.

Ghana face Cape Verde, record holders Egypt and Mozambique in the Group stage of the tournament scheduled for Cote D’Ivoire from Saturday, January 13 – Sunday, February 11, 2024.
