New Edubiase FC President, Abdul Salam Yakubu says Chris Hughton must not be blamed for Black Stars’ recent poor performance.
The former Premier League manager who signed a 21-month deal has come under pressure following Ghana’s 1-0 defeat against Comoros.
Black Stars were stunned in the second Group I game in Moroni on Tuesday after opening their campaign with a 1-0 hard-fought win over Madagascar.
Inaki Williams scored a 95th-minute goal at the Baba Yara Stadium.
Following the defeat, calls have emerged that Hughton must be shown the exit door.
However, Abdul Salam speaking in an interview argued that the former Irish international cannot be blamed for the recent happening.
According to him, the players are playing top teams in Europe but always fail to perform when they are assembled to play for Black Stars.
“We have players playing in the Premier League and other top European clubs but when they assemble for a Black Stars game, they fail to perform,” he told Asempa FM as monitored by Footballghana.com.
“I think something is fundamentally wrong with the team and for me, it is not about Chris Hughton and his technical team.
“These players are good players and it is about time they come together and fight for the country.
“Chris Hughton is a top-class coach who has managed clubs in the Premier League so in terms of understanding the game, he is there so must task the players to improve their performance,” he added.
The Black Stars sit third with three points after two games and will face Mali in their next group game.
