Ghana’s preparations for the 2026 FIFA World Cup have taken a major step forward with the inauguration of an inter-ministerial committee tasked with coordinating the country’s participation.

The Chief of Staff, Julius Debrah, expressed strong approval of the decision to include football icon Abedi Ayew Pele on the committee, describing his presence as an invaluable addition.

“We are not only trying to operate in abstract,” he said, emphasising the need for practical cooperation from diplomatic partners.

“If for nothing at all, he [Abedi Pele] has played on the international platform, he has the experience to share with us how best we can be able to present our country on the international stage.”

The committee was formed by the President to bring together expertise from government, security agencies, and football leadership.

Members include Deputy Chief of Staff Stan Xoese Dogbe and Foreign Affairs Minister Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa. Sports Minister Kofi Adams, Youth Development Minister George Opare, Deputy Tourism and Culture Minister Yusif Jajah, and Deputy Finance Minister Ampem Nyarkoh also serve on the body.

Their combined mandate is to ensure Ghana’s technical, logistical, and administrative readiness ahead of its fifth World Cup appearance.
