Chelsea set for £15 million windfall following Real Madrid’s win over Liverpool

Chelsea are primed to benefit financially on the back of Premier League rivals Liverpool’s defeat in the Champions League finale on Saturday night.

Jurgen Klopp’s troops, of course, made the trip to Paris just shy of 24 hours ago, eyeing a 3rd cup title of the campaign.

Standing in the way of the Reds, as proved the case in 2018, though, were Spanish champions and European elite Real Madrid.

And, as proved the case four years ago, when all was said and done at the Stade de France, it was Real who emerged triumphant, courtesy of a solitary goal on the part of wide-man Vinicius Jr.

Real, in turn have added an eye-watering 14th Champions League crown to the club’s trophy cabinet, double the number of any other club in the history of European competition.

As alluded to above, though, Los Blancos are not the only ones set to benefit from their eventual downing of Liverpool on Saturday night.

So too are the club whom Ancelotti and co. have now replaced as the holders of club football’s most prestigious prize.

As per a report from the Daily Mail, Chelsea are in line for a £15 million windfall, owing to Real’s latest continental triumph.

This comes as a result of the terms of Eden Hazard’s big-money move to the Bernabeu in the summer of 2019. It is understood that one clause in the Belgian’s contract saw Real agree to fork over £15 million to Chelsea, in the case of Hazard clinching a Champions League medal whilst on the books of the capital giants.

This comes despite the 31-year-old having racked up a paltry total of 83 minutes played across the competition’s length, and failing to even make it off the bench in last night’s showpiece.
