Chelsea considering astonishing Cristiano Ronaldo move

Chelsea and their new owners are considering an astonishing bid for Manchester United striker Cristiano Ronaldo this summer, but any deal would have to have the blessing of Blues boss Thomas Tuchel.

Ronaldo is keen to leave Manchester United this summer, their lack of Champions League football next season compounded by a slow start to the transfer window, which is yet to see the Red Devils announce a signing over a month into the transfer window.

And, Chelsea have emerged as a credible potential destination, with ‘Boehly and his fellow director Behdad Eghbali thought to be intrigued by the concept of recruiting such an iconic figure’, according to David Ornstein of the Athletic.

Chelsea, of course, have a vacancy at striker following the failed signing of Romelu Lukaku last summer, with the Belgian since having returned to Inter Milan on loan after a horror season with the Blues that was made worse by consistent demands to return to Italy.

Will Ronaldo leave?

Manchester United continue to tell people that the striker is not for sale, but keeping him around the squad unhappy could cause more problems than letting him leave could.

The major problem for the Red Devils is that should he depart, they will be left short in their front line, with only the out-of-favour Anthony Martial and Marcus Rashford capable of playing through the middle for Erik ten Hag, and the likes of Darwin Nunez and Erling Haaland both now off the market.

Any departure could force an overpayment by the Red Devils should they need to find a new forward before the start of the new season in a month’s time.
