Chelsea close deal for Man City’s Raheem Sterling

Fee & contract details: Chelsea close deal for Man City’s Raheem Sterling

Chelsea have, late on Saturday, clinched a deal to sign Raheem Sterling from Premier League rivals Manchester City.

Surprise speculation linking wide-man Sterling with a move to west London, of course, first began to surface across the media late last month.

Amid the ongoing uncertainty surrounding the futures of all of Timo Werner, Hakim Ziyech and Christian Pulisic, Chelsea quickly identified Sterling as a potential addition to the club’s attacking ranks ahead of next season.

The English international often found himself on the outside looking in when it came to City’s most important fixtures this past season, sitting behind the likes of Riyad Mahrez and Phil Foden in Pep Guardiola’s attacking pecking order.

With just a year remaining on his contract at the Etihad, it therefore made sense for the transfer team on the blue half of Manchester to look into the possibility of moving Sterling on this summer, to avoid potentially losing him for nothing in 12 months’ time.

And, if the latest word stemming from the media on Saturday is anything to go by, then it would appear as though a deal to send the 27-year-old to Stamford Bridge has been definitively struck.

As per transfer expert David Ornstein, a ‘total agreement’ over Sterling’s transfer has been reached between Chelsea and Man City.

This comes after the former agreed to fork over a fee which has since been clarified as £47.5 million fixed.

The England international, in turn, is primed to put pen to paper on a five-year contract at Stamford Bridge, featuring the option for a further year, in a move expected to be made official this coming week.
