Former Asante Kotoko forward Charles Taylor has cast doubt on the team’s readiness for their CAF Confederation Cup campaign.
Taylor’s concerns follow the Porcupine Warriors’ poor showing in the just-ended GHALCA Top 4 tournament, where they lost all their games and finished bottom.
“Asante Kotoko must improve their game before the Africa campaign. As a lifelong Kotoko fan and former player, I urge the team to step up if they want to make an impact,” Taylor told reporters.
“I don’t see any seriousness in the team considering their output at the GHALCA Top 4. I saw a lot of blunders ; the players were just playing for playing sake. A lot must change before the competition starts,” he added.
Kotoko return to Africa for the first time since 2022 after winning last season’s FA Cup. They will host Nigeria’s Kwara United in the first leg between September 19–21 before the return fixture in Ilorin. A win will set up a clash with Moroccan giants Wydad Casablanca in the second preliminary round.
