Charles Sampson Confident Black Princesses Will Overcome South Africa in U-20 World Cup Qualifier

Head coach of Ghana’s Black Princesses, Charles Sampson, says he is confident his side will defeat South Africa this weekend to secure progression to the next round of the qualifiers for the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup.

The Black Princesses wrapped up their final training session in Mbombela on Friday ahead of the decisive return leg against their South African counterparts.

Speaking on the sidelines of training, Sampson admitted his team’s finishing let them down in the first leg in Ghana, which ended in a 2–2 draw despite creating several scoring opportunities.

Having spent the past few days working on correcting those shortcomings, the coach believes his players are better prepared to deliver away from home and seal qualification.

“We have been working on the last third the most this week because that’s where we lack a bit. Pressure is part of the game. We are playing to qualify for the World Cup. Unfortunately, we slipped a little bit in the last match. We are ready, the girls are ready to redeem themselves tomorrow and qualify for the next stage,” Sampson stated.

The crucial return fixture between South Africa and Ghana will be played on Saturday, February 14, 2026, at the Mbombela Stadium, with kick-off scheduled for 13:00 GMT.
