Charles Allotey slams Black Satellites after AFCON exit

Former Hearts of Oak midfielder and U-17 World Cup winner Charles Allotey has taken a swipe at Ghana’s U-20 team, accusing them of lacking the hunger and grit needed to qualify for the 2025 U-20 World Cup.

The Black Satellites crashed out of the competition after a painful 5-4 penalty shootout defeat to Egypt, having drawn 2-2 in normal time.

Speaking after the loss, Allotey didn’t mince words, suggesting the players did not show enough fight to win.

“They weren’t angry enough for the cup, even though they were playing. When you looked at their faces, you could tell they weren’t fighting for it,” he said.

“After we equalized, why not push for a third goal and secure the win? But they became complacent and assumed they would beat Egypt. That’s not how competitions work. Every team you face in a tournament is a threat, and you need to be ready to beat them,” he added.

With this latest setback, Ghana has now missed out on a place at the U-20 World Cup for the third time in a row with their last appearance in 2015.
