The Confederation of African Football (CAF) and Channel 4 have signed a landmark media rights agreement that will make the UK broadcaster the exclusive home of the TotalEnergies Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) Morocco 2025 — the first time the tournament will be available free-to-air across the UK.

AFCON 2025 kicks off on 21 December 2025, featuring 24 teams and 52 matches across nine stadiums in Morocco. Channel 4 will air every match live across its platforms, including Channel 4, E4, 4Seven, Channel 4 Streaming and Channel 4 Sport on YouTube.

CAF General Secretary Véron Mosengo-Omba described the partnership as “historic,” saying it will bring AFCON “into every household in the UK for the first time,” while reinforcing its status as one of football’s most valuable global properties.

Channel 4 Head of Sport Pete Andrews said the broadcaster is excited to showcase Africa’s premier tournament, noting that the presence of several Premier League stars — including Mohamed Salah — makes it a major attraction for UK audiences. He highlighted that Salah’s AFCON clash on Boxing Day will offer fans a festive football fix amid reduced Premier League scheduling.

AFCON 2025 will feature a long list of Premier League players, including:

  • Mohamed Salah and Omar Marmoush for Egypt

  • Bryan Mbeumo, Amad Diallo, Noussair Mazraoui

  • Iliman Ndiaye, Idrissa Gueye, Alex Iwobi, Calvin Bassey, Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Ismaila Sarr, and Emmanuel Agbadou

The deal was brokered with the support of IMG, CAF’s international media rights and sponsorship partner.
