The head coach of Nigeria’s home-based team, Daniel Ogunmodede, is confident of securing qualification for the African Nations Championship (CHAN) tournament after a goalless draw against Ghana in the first-leg encounter.
Despite Ghana dominating possession in the first half, Nigeria’s defense remained solid and well-organized, preventing the hosts from finding the back of the net.
Coach Ogunmodede expressed satisfaction with his team’s performance and is optimistic about the return leg.
“We knew Ghana were going to be tough, like I said earlier (during the press conference), but we knew we were good enough to get a positive result,” he said.
“We showed discipline and that is what Nigeria is known for. In the second leg, Nigeria will go for the win.”
The second-leg fixture is scheduled for Saturday at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo.
The winner will secure a spot at the CHAN 2024 tournament, set to be co-hosted by Kenya, Uganda, and Tanzania.
