Morocco made history by winning their record third African Nations Championship (CHAN) title, defeating Madagascar 3-2 in a thrilling final match at the Moi International Sports Centre in Kasarani, Nairobi, Kenya.
Oussama Lamlioui scored a brace, including a stunning 40-yard strike, to secure Morocco’s victory and claimed the Golden Boot award with six goals.
The match saw Madagascar take an early lead through Felicite Manohatsoa’s long-range strike, but Morocco equalized through Youssef Mehri’s precise through ball to Lamlioui, who scored with a poacher’s finish.
Morocco then took the lead before halftime through Sabir Bougrine’s well-executed set piece.
Although Madagascar drew level with Toky Rakotondraibe’s goal, Lamlioui sealed the win with his spectacular long-range strike in the 80th minute.
This victory marks a great year for Moroccan football, following their youth sides’ success in the Under-17 Africa Cup of Nations and their Under-20 tournament final appearance.
Morocco’s win earns them $3.5 million in prize money, solidifying their reputation as CHAN’s most successful team.
