Central Region clinched a dramatic 3-2 penalty shootout win over Upper East after a 2-2 stalemate in regulation time at the Ghanaman Soccer Centre of Excellence in Prampram.

Despite the victory, both teams were knocked out of the MTN Elite U19 Championship following the conclusion of Group B matches.

The game burst into life early on as Webonga Eric opened the scoring for Upper East in the 13th minute, only for Kenneth Boateng to equalize moments later.

Mundasidu Seidu restored Upper East’s lead before Yaw Yeboah Dasman’s strike brought Central Region level again, forcing the contest into penalties.

In the shootout, Upper East failed to capitalize as Maribtor Isaac, Davulom Andy, and Kyei Kelvin all missed their kicks. Central Region, however, kept their composure with successful conversions from Emmanuel Kwame Boakye, Kwesi Agyekum Jnr, and Daniel Hutchful Tawiah to seal the win and end the group stage on five points.

Both sides now bow out of the competition, leaving the Group B decider between Greater Accra and Ashanti Region to determine the top spot.

The MTN Elite U19 Championship, which runs from October 23 to November 2, 2025, brings together ten regional teams from across Ghana.

The tournament aims to nurture young talents, giving them a platform to impress national scouts and coaches.
