Celtic must seal Tyrhys Dolan transfer

Celtic saw a raft of players coming to and exiting Parkhead during last summer’s transfer window.

In addition to bringing in the likes of Josip Juranovic, Kyogo Furuhashi and Giorgos Giakoumakis, among others, the Hoops said goodbye to players such as Odsonne Edouard, Kristoffer Ajer and Scott Brown.

Another who brought an end to his time as a Hoops player last year is Ryan Christie, who joined Bournemouth in a deal worth £2.5m.

After scoring 41 goals and delivering 44 assists in 151 appearances for the Bhoys, the club certainly lost a useful asset when they sold him.

However, having won the Premiership title and scored more goals than any other team in the division along the way, it’s safe to say that Ange Postecoglou’s side didn’t exactly miss having Christie in their ranks.

While the Hoops have already been busy in the transfer market this summer by securing deals for Jota, Cameron Carter-Vickers, Benjamin Siegrist and Alexandro Bernabei, this period could also give them the chance to land what could be their next version of Christie.

Last month, it was claimed on Twitter by Geoff Peters that Celtic are interested in signing Blackburn Rovers youngster Tyrhys Dolan in a deal which could be worth up to £3m.

With four goals and three assists to his name in 34 Championship appearances last season, the 20-year-old has shown early signs of being a dangerous attacking player who can score and create goals for his team, in a similar way that Christie did during his time at Celtic.

In fact, one of his goals was labelled “wonderful” by his then-manager Tony Mowbray, who also described the youngster as an “amazing human being”.

Were Celtic right to sell Ryan Christie last summer?

Also, having played in numerous positions across the pitch for Blackburn in the previous campaign, this sort of versatility could also put him in the same light as the former Hoops star, who ended up playing in almost every midfield and attacking position possible when he was at Parkhead.

Looking at the duo’s previous league campaigns, they racked up very similar rates of goals and assists per 90 minutes and also shots on target per 90 minutes.

If Postecoglou feels the need to add a young attacking talent like Dolan to his ranks this summer, then securing a deal for the Ewood Park prodigy could be a great bit of business from the Hoops.
