Central African Republic (CAR) head coach Raoul Savoy, has recognized Ghana as the favorites ahead of their final 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifier against the Black Stars.
Set to take place at the Baba Yara Stadium on Thursday, both teams are vying for qualification to the continental showpiece, scheduled to be held in Ivory Coast in January 2024.
While the Wild Beasts from CAR must secure a victory against Ghana to qualify, the four-time AFCON champions, merely require a single point to secure their spot.
With Ghana leading Group E with 9 points, holding a slim one-point lead over second-placed Angola and a two-point advantage over CAR in third place, Raoul Savoy acknowledged the challenge ahead.
In an interview with Ghanasportspage, he admitted, “Of course, Ghana is playing at home, and they are the favorites. It is the final game for both teams. They are the biggest team in the group, and it will be very tough, but we are coming to Ghana to play our game and try our best to qualify.”
Despite the odds, Savoy remained optimistic about his team’s potential to cause an upset. He stated, “It is a final, and in finals, the small one can surprise the big one. It’s clear that it is a final, and both teams will be ready to focus on the goal. The main goal is to qualify for the next AFCON.”
CAR’s national team, the Wild Beasts, has already arrived in Accra in anticipation of this crucial encounter with Ghana.
