Medeama SC are gearing up for a pivotal clash against Egyptian giants Al Ahly in the CAF Champions League group stage fixture this Saturday.
The Al Sallam Stadium in Cairo is set to witness the first-ever meeting between these two clubs in a CAF inter-club competition.
Medeama SC earned their place in the competition by defeating Remo Stars AC Horoya. The Ghanaian champions are eager to make their mark on this prestigious stage.
In contrast, Al Ahly, recognized as the most successful club in Africa with 11 CAF Champions League trophies, the latest secured in 2021, and reigning title holders in the Egyptian League, enter the fixture with an impressive track record, experiencing only one loss in their last five games.
Despite the odds heavily favoring the home side, Medeama SC face the challenge with determination. Their form leading up to this fixture has been less than stellar, with only two victories in their last five games.
However, Evans Adotey, the manager of the Mauve and Yellow lads, remains optimistic about their performance in Cairo, emphasizing the resilience of his squad.
“We must make sure we advance to the Quarterfinals because this is a league competition rather than a knockout round. Going into the Al Ahly match, I want to keep a clean sheet, attack and defend, and make sure I don’t lose,” Evans told Akoma FM.
“I’m confident that we won’t lose in Egypt, and I’m preparing my boys well to ensure that we return home with positive results.”
The stage is set for a thrilling showdown between the underdog Ghanaian champions and the football powerhouse that is Al Ahly.
Both Medeama SC and Al Ahly will also face Young Africans of Tanzania and CD Belouizdad of Algeria in Group D of the competition.
The match is set to kick off at exactly 7pm prompt.
