Burnley sack Sean Dyche as relegation looms

Official: Burnley sack Sean Dyche as relegation looms

Sean Dyche has been sacked by Burnley after nearly 10 years at the club, the club have confirmed.

Dyche joined Burnley in October of 2012, leading them to promotion in 2012/13 after finishing 2nd in the Championship.

The Clarets were then relegated in 2014/15, but Dyche was once again able to guide them to the English top-flight after securing top spot in the Championship the season after being relegated.

Since that second promotion, Burnley have secured 16th, 7th, 15th, 10th and 17th place finishes in the Premier League, with that 7th place finish enough to earn Burnley a Europa League spot in 2018/19.

However, it is fair to say that the current campaign is not going too well for the Lancashire outfit.

Burnley are 18th in the Premier League, four points from safety with eight games left to play.

So, it is not too surprising to see Burnley confirming on Friday morning that they have parted company with Dyche:

Chairman Alan Pace had this to say on Dyche’s departure: “Firstly, we would like to place on record our sincere thanks to Sean and his staff for their achievements at the Club over the last decade.

“During his time at Turf Moor, Sean has been a credit both on and off the pitch, respected by players, staff, supporters, and the wider football community.

“However, results this season have been disappointing and, while this was an incredibly difficult decision, with eight crucial games of the campaign remaining, we feel a change is needed to give the squad the best possible chance of retaining its Premier League status.

“The process of replacing Sean has begun and further announcements will be made to supporters in due course.”
