Burnley pub issues name change update in wake of Sean Dyche’s departure

Sean Dyche’s departure came as a shock to many in the football community when it was announced by the club on Thursday morning, with the Clarets calling time on his nearly decade-long tenure in charge of the Lancashire club via a short social media statement.

None more so, however, than a pub in the City, which was renamed from The Princess Royal to The Royal Dyche in honour of the Burnley manager in 2018. As perhaps expected, they fielded plenty of calls about the future of the pub now that their namesake has departed Turf Moor.

The Royal Dyche to remain

And, to the relief of many, they have announced that they will be keeping the name the same despite the unforeseen change of circumstances at the club.

In a tweet, they revealed that ‘regardless of recent actions by the football club, it is unquestionable that we WILL remain The Royal Dyche. Nobody can undo the good work that the gaffer has done for the last nine years, how far he has taken us and finally putting Burnley FC back on the map.’

And, to avoid further confusion, they have issued a fine to anybody that dares ask whether they will be changing their name.

‘Anyone who comes into our pub and asks if we will change our name will be asked to donate £1 to Pendleside hospice’, they warn.

‘Anything to squeeze something good out of a bad situation’.

So, punters be warned: don’t ask about a name change should you find yourself swinging past the Royal Dyche for a pint or two!
