Accra, Ghana – 31 July 2026 Ghana’s football legends were honoured in Accra on Friday as home appliance brand BRUHM called for the country’s sporting heroes to be recognised during their lifetimes.

Five celebrated figures – Rev. Osei Kofi, Ibrahim Sunday, Mohammed Ahmed “Polo”, Nii Odartey Lamptey and Daniel Quaye – were recognised at a dinner marking the conclusion of the BRUHM Honours Legends campaign.

The ceremony, held at the Alisa Hotel in North Ridge, brought together former footballers, government officials, business leaders and representatives from Ghana’s sporting and corporate communities.

The five honourees played leading roles during some of the most significant periods in Ghanaian football. Their achievements include Africa Cup of Nations success, continental club honours, youth world championship glory and appearances at the FIFA World Cup.

Each legend received a commemorative citation, a BRUHM television and a BRUHM refrigerator in recognition of their contribution to the national game.

The event was the final stage of a nationwide campaign that used documentaries, digital content and public discussions to record the stories of Ghana’s football pioneers. BRUHM said the project was intended to reconnect younger generations with the players and personalities behind some of the country’s most memorable sporting occasions.

Among the guests were Shivesh Srivastava, General Manager and Business Head of Somotex Ghana Limited; Roshanak Taheri, Head of Marketing, BRUHM Global; Awurakua Antwi, Marketing Manager for BRUHM Ghana and Somotex Ghana Limited; Veronica Commey, Deputy Director-General of the National Sports Authority; representatives of the Ministry of Sports and Recreation; Dr. Joseph Obeng, former President of the Ghana Union of Traders’ Associations (GUTA) and a Member of the Governing Council of the African Peer Review Mechanism (APRM); Somotex business partners; and invited guests from Ghana’s football and commercial sectors.

Guests watched documentary films chronicling the careers of the five legends, while the Ayital Cultural Agency provided cultural performances. Musician Rama Black also delivered a serenade before the evening ended with standing ovations and tributes to the influence of the honourees on Ghana’s sporting identity.

Taheri said BRUHM had deliberately chosen to focus on the people and memories behind football rather than limiting the campaign to tournaments or commercial promotions.

“Our campaign was never really about an ending. It was about remembering where something began.”

She added that the brand wanted its relationship with consumers to extend beyond the household products it sells.

“We do not want our relationship with consumers to begin and end with an appliance sitting in someone’s home. We want to build a brand that understands the people who live in those homeswhat they celebrate, what they are proud of, what they remember and what brings families together.”

Antwi said BRUHM’s long connection with Ghanaian households had shaped the initiative.

“For decades, BRUHM has been part of Ghanaian homes, where families have gathered around their televisions to celebrate victories, relive unforgettable matches and create memories that last a lifetime. BRUHM Honours Legends is our way of celebrating the heroes behind those memories and preserving their stories for generations yet to come.”

Commey praised the campaign in her keynote goodwill message and urged other organisations to follow BRUHM’s example.

“As someone who believes strongly in giving people their flowers while they can still smell them, I commend BRUHM for making this possible.”

She described the initiative as an important contribution to protecting Ghana’s football heritage and encouraging future generations.

BRUHM said the campaign reflected its belief that football is more than a sport, representing a shared national experience that has brought together families, communities and generations. It said documenting the lives of Ghana’s football icons would help preserve an important part of the country’s sporting and cultural history.

The company is one of Ghana’s leading home appliance and consumer electronics brands, producing refrigerators, freezers, televisions, washing machines, air conditioners, kitchen appliances and other household products.

BRUHM said it is trusted by millions of households and built around quality, reliability and value. Its wider mission, it added, is based on the belief that the home is where many of life’s most important moments take place.
