BREAKING: Stay of execution granted as CAS lift ban on AshantiGold and Inter Allies players until substantive case is heard –

The Court of Arbitration for Sports has lifted the ban on the 21 players involved in the match-fixing scandal between Ashantigold and Inter Allies. 

The players have been cleared to play temporarily until the full merits of the case id determined.

This means, the affected players can register and play for their respective clubs as CAS looks into the matter.

Twenty-one players were banned by the Ghana Football Association following the outcome of an investigations into the game between the Miners and the Eleven is to One boys at the end of the 2019/20 season.

Former Inter Allies defender Hashim Musah scored two bizarre own goals in the 5-0 defeat to Ashantigold, raising suspicions of match-fixing.

After the game, the player revealed that he scored the own goals to foil a fixed game.

Some officials of the two clubs have also been banned from the sport for their role in the scandal.

Nine players of Inter Allies’ matchday squad namely: Mohammed Zakari, Richard Acquaah, Shaibu Taufiq, Danso Wiredu Mensah (goalkeeper), Alex Aso, Abdul Kadir Mohammed, Isah Ali, Felix Abuska, and Andy Okpe who failed to appear before the investigative committee, were handed two years ban each for their involvement in the game.

For Ashanti Gold, Stephen Owusu Banahene, Empem Dacosta Ampem, Frank Akoto, Agyemang Isaac Opoku, Amos Kofi Nkrumah, Eric Esso, Moses Kwame, and Solomon Afriyie were banned 24 months (two years) each while, Samed Mohammed and Seth Osei received a 30-month (two years, six months) each.

Four other players: Emmanuel Owusu, Mohammed Bailou, Amos Addai, and Paul De Vries Asare were banned for 48 months (four years) each.
