Coventry City centre-forward Brandon Thomas-Asante opened his goal-scoring account for the Black Stars of Ghana in their 2-1 defeat to Nigeria in the semi-final of the 2025 Unity Cup at the Gtech Community Stadium in London.
The 26-year-old striker, who made his debut for Ghana during a 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier against the Central African Republic in June 2024, came off the bench at the start of the second half to replace Asante Kotoko’s Kwame Opoku.
Opoku had been handed a starting role by head coach Otto Addo, leading the line alongside Christopher Bonsu Baah and Jordan Ayew.
The England-based forward has been enjoying a steady rise at Coventry City, playing under manager Frank Lampard during the 2024/25 English Championship season.
Thomas-Asante made an immediate impact, bringing energy and intent to Ghana’s attack. He was rewarded in the 70th minute with a well-taken goal that served as a consolation for the Black Stars. Despite their improved second-half performance, Ghana could not overturn the two-goal deficit from the first half.

He featured in 38 league matches, scoring four goals and providing three assists, playing a key role in helping Coventry reach the Championship playoffs, where they eventually fell to Sunderland in the semi-finals.
Thomas-Asante’s strong showing at club level and his promising international performances suggest a bright future for the London-born striker as he cements his place in the Ghanaian national team setup.
