Bordeaux’s Life in Ligue 1 Expected to End in a Defeat to Brest

Brest will be looking to keep hold of their 11th-placed spot in Ligue 1 as Bordeaux merely aim to finish the season on a high after a disastrous campaign leaves them bottom of the table without much hope of survival.

There is a chance that Bordeaux can survive, but it would take the most extraordinary end to a relegation fight ever witnessed across Europe.

The club are rock bottom of Ligue 1 and have 28 points compared to Metz in the relegation play-off spot who have 31. St-Etienne also look set to go down in 19th with them also on 31 points.

All three of the bottom three in the drop zone can’t get out of those positions, and they simply have to hope they end up in the play-off position.

As alluded to, Bordeaux can do so, but they’ll need to win here, hope the other two lose, and for an almighty 12 goals to be overturned in the goals difference column.

This comes off the back of 89 goals conceded in Ligue 1 for David Guion’s men with them scoring only 48 of their own.

On the other hand, they have outscored everyone in the bottom seven, but their defensive record is the worst across Europe’s top five leagues with only Greuther Furth in the Bundesliga (82) coming close to this record.

Bordeaux have managed to secure only five wins in the league this campaign, but their 19 defeats is not the worst in the division as St-Etienne have lost 20.

They’ve also gone five games without a win since beating Metz back in April, with a 6-1 loss to Lyon coming immediately after this, as they also lost 5-3 to Nantes and 4-1 to Angers.

The club managed to draw 0-0 with Lorient in the last game, but Gideon Mensah received a red card that day and now misses the last game.

Brest in 11th now after their two defeats on the bounce to Strasbourg and Monaco pushed them further away from the top 10, which also means they cannot move any higher than 11th.

Clermont Foot were the club they defeated last time out, and they will be in search of a victory number 14 in the league this season here.

Reims are also right behind them by only two points and with an inferior goal difference to them, they’ll likely need to win in order to remain in 11th.

Forebet predicts a win for Brest here and for the game to see over 2.5 goals.
