Ghana’s 2022 World Cup group opponent Portugal have been dealt a major blow following the injury to Diogo Jota.
The Liverpool forward is set for a prolonged spell on the sideline due to a calf injury, the club confirmed on Tuesday.
The 25 year old was stretched off the pitch in stoppage-time during their 1-0 win over Manchester City at Anfield in the English Premiership on Sunday.
He is set to miss Liverpool’s remaining eight fixtures prior to the international break in November and his participation in Portugal’s World Cup campaign has also been ruled out.
Jota is an important player for Portugal, who are in group H alongside Ghana, Uruguay, and South Korea.
