In the lead-up to the TotalEnergies Africa Cup of Nations Cote d’Ivoire 2023, Ghana’s Black Stars are gearing up for a critical pre-tournament friendly against Botswana.
The team, assembling in Johannesburg for a 10-day camp starting December 31st, will utilize this match as a crucial part of their preparations before the continental finals.
Coach Chris Hughton confirmed that training sessions during the Johannesburg camp will be conducted behind closed doors, ensuring an intense focus on refining strategies and team dynamics. This strategic approach aims to fine-tune the squad ahead of their Group B encounters against powerhouses Egypt, Cape Verde, and Mozambique.
The Black Stars will face Botswana in their solitary warm-up friendly on January 8th, providing a final opportunity for Hughton to assess his players’ readiness before heading to Abidjan two days later. With the likes of Thomas Partey, Mohammed Kudus, and captain Andre Ayew expected to lead the charge, Ghana aims to make amends for their 2022 World Cup disappointment and compete strongly for their first AFCON title since 1982.
As Ghana seeks to navigate a challenging group stage, the Johannesburg training camp becomes a pivotal setting for Hughton to instill focus and cohesion in the squad, ultimately aiming for success in Côte d’Ivoire.
