The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has announced the cancellation of the Black Stars’ international friendly against Botswana, initially scheduled for Monday, January 8, 2023, in Johannesburg. The decision to call off the match is part of a strategic adjustment in the team’s preparations for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations.
With the team now set to camp in Kumasi, starting on Tuesday, January 2, 2023, the GFA is actively working on securing an alternative opponent to provide the Black Stars with a valuable pre-tournament test. The cancellation of the Botswana friendly reflects the adaptability and flexibility required in optimizing the team’s preparation closer to home as they gear up for the continental football spectacle in Cote D’Ivoire.
The focus remains on refining strategies, building team cohesion, and fine-tuning player readiness as Ghana aims for success in the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations.
Ghana is paired in Group B alongside giants Egypt, Cape Verde, and Mozambique.
The Black Stars will open their campaign against Cape Verde on Sunday, January 14, before taking on record holders Egypt on January 18 and play Mozambique on January 22 in the other Group B game.
