Communications Director of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Henry Asante Twum has confirmed that the players representing the Black Stars received appearance fees for their participation in the international friendly games held in October.
In preparation for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations and the 2026 World Cup qualifiers, Ghana confronted formidable opponents in Mexico and the USA, only to suffer setbacks with a 2-0 loss to the CONCACAF champions and a 4-0 defeat against the US Men’s national team.
Despite the less-than-ideal and uninspiring performances by the players, Asante Twum verified that those who were called up for these matches received their appearance fees.
“For friendly games, the players have an appearance fee to take. Whoever is called up, the money is even given to them before they even played. Every player received their appearance fee upon arriving in camp“ he explained in an interview with Asempa FM.
When asked about the specific amounts received by each player, Twum indicated that he couldn’t confirm the exact figures.
As the Black Stars seek to regroup and improve, they are set to face Madagascar and Comoros in their upcoming World Cup qualifiers next month.
