Ghana forward Inaki Williams overcame a niggling ankle issue to extend his jaw-dropping record of consecutive appearances in the Spanish La Liga over the weekend.
After picking up a knock on Monday evening against Cadiz, it was widely speculated that Iñaki Williams’ incredible six year run without missing a La Liga game had effectively come to an end.
However the striker made a remarkable recovery and was named in Atletic Bilbao’s starting line-up against Espanyol on Sunday, extending his record to 237 consecutive league appearances.
Inaki played 71 minutes of the home game before being substituted as Bilbao fell to a 1-0 defeat.
The 28 year old recently switched his national team allegiance from Spain to Ghana, handing the Black Stars a major boost in attack ahead of the 2022 World Cup and 2023 AFCON.
He is available for Ghana’s two pre-World Cup friendlies against Brazil and Nicaragua this month.
