In an international friendly at the Bank of America stadium in Charlotte, North Carolina, the Black Stars of Ghana faced a formidable Mexican side, and the outcome proved to be a tough challenge for the West African team.

Mexico clinched a 2-0 victory, with goals coming from Hirving Lozano in the 57th minute and Antuna Romero in the 72nd minute.

It was a match that started with promise for Ghana, but the team encountered difficulty in finding the net, ultimately failing to register a single shot on target.

Ghana began the game with a 3-back formation, featuring the trio of Stephan Ambrosius, Nicholas Opoku, and Joseph Aidoo in defense.

In midfield, Thomas Partey and Elisha Owusu partnered, while Antoine Semenyo led the lines, flanked by Mohammed Kudus and Joseph Painstil. Kingsley Schindler and Gideon Mensah played as wingbacks.

Despite the bright start by the Black Stars, particularly with a 14th-minute cross from Joseph Painstil, the team faced challenges. Joseph Aidoo was forced to make way due to a suspected ligament injury in the 27th minute, leading to Alidu Seidu’s introduction.

While Ghana displayed composure at the back and controlled significant moments in the game, the team struggled to capitalize on chances upfront.

The turning point came in the 57th minute when Mexico’s Hirvin Lozano clinically planted a pass from midfield into the back of the net, giving his side the lead.

In an effort to change the dynamics of the game, Ghana’s coach, Chris Hughton, made substitutions, bringing in Ernest Nuamah, Jordan Ayew, and Inaki Williams for Kingsley Schindler, Joseph Painstil, and Antoine Semenyo.

However, it was Mexico that increased their tally, with Antuna Romero netting a goal in the 72nd minute after brilliantly controlling a pass from midfield and leaving Ghana goalkeeper Lawrence Ati-Zigi with no chance.

Ghana pushed forward in an attempt to alter the scoreline, but Mexico held their ground, securing their fourth successive win against the Black Stars.

Ghana now turns its attention to the upcoming match against the United States of America, which will take place at GEODIS Park in Nashville, Tennessee on Tuesday, October 17, 2023.

The Black Stars will be aiming to rebound from their defeat to Mexico and put up a strong performance against the USA.
