The Black Queens’ preparations for their decisive 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) qualifier against Egypt have hit a major setback, as players are threatening to boycott training and possibly the match over unpaid bonuses.
The players had earlier considered pulling out of the first leg in Ismailia but proceeded to play after intervention from officials.
Despite securing a 3–0 victory in that fixture, tension has resurfaced following their return to Ghana.
The players reportedly refused to train after arriving in Accra, insisting they will not participate in any official activities until the arrears are cleared.
According to Joy Sports, members of the senior women’s national team are demanding $9,500 each, owed from their 2024 WAFCON campaign in Morocco.
The delay in payments has cast a shadow over the team’s impressive run and could potentially disrupt their push for a place in the next WAFCON which also doubles as a qualifier for the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup in Brazil.
The second leg is scheduled for Tuesday, October 28, 2025, at the Accra Sports Stadium, with Ghana holding a three-goal advantage.
